Okay, so I’ve been thinking a lot about what makeup does to my skin. I mean, we all love a good beat face, but have you ever stopped to wonder what’s happening underneath all that foundation and concealer? I did, and let me tell you, it was a bit of an eye-opener. I started this little experiment a few weeks ago, and I’m here to share the messy details with you all.
First off, I got into this because I noticed my skin was looking kinda dull. I wear makeup almost every day, not gonna lie. So, I started by taking a good, hard look at my skin without any makeup on. I used my phone to snap some pics in natural light, and yeah, it wasn’t pretty. My pores looked huge, I had some redness going on, and my skin just looked tired, you know?
Then, I kept using my makeup as usual for the next two weeks. I’m talking full coverage foundation, concealer, powder, the whole nine yards. I made sure to take pictures every day in the same lighting to track any changes. I also made a note of how my skin felt – was it dry, oily, itchy? Anything out of the ordinary.
After those two weeks, I cleansed my face like my life depended on it. I used a double cleanse method – first an oil-based cleanser, then a gentle foaming one. Let me tell you, that alone made a difference. My skin felt so much cleaner and could breathe a little.
I compared the before and after pictures. Honestly, the difference was noticeable. With all that makeup, my pores looked even more clogged, and I had a few new blemishes pop up. My skin felt kinda heavy and oily by the end of the day. I used to blame the weather, but now I’m not so sure.
Next, I decided to give my skin a break. I went makeup-free for a week. I just used my regular cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. At first, I felt super self-conscious. I was so used to covering up my imperfections. But, I stuck with it. I kept taking those daily photos.
During this makeup-free week, I paid close attention to what I was putting on my skin. I switched to non-comedogenic products and made sure everything was oil-free. I did some reading and found out that some ingredients in makeup can actually irritate your skin and clog your pores. Who knew?
Guess what? My skin started to improve. The redness went down, my pores looked smaller, and my skin felt so much lighter. It wasn’t perfect, but it was definitely better. My skin started to get its natural glow back.
Now, I’m not saying I’m giving up makeup for good. I still love getting dolled up, but I’m definitely going to be more mindful about what I put on my face. And I’m for sure going to make sure I cleanse my skin properly every night. This whole thing has really made me realize that less is sometimes more. And that taking care of your skin is way more important than covering it up.
My Takeaways
- Cleanse like you mean it. Double cleansing is the way to go, especially if you wear a lot of makeup.
- Read the labels. Look for non-comedogenic and oil-free products, especially if you’re prone to breakouts.
- Give your skin a break. Try going makeup-free for a few days or even a week. Let your skin breathe!
- Don’t be afraid to go bare. It might feel weird at first, but your skin will thank you.
So, that’s my little experiment. It’s not scientific or anything, but it was definitely a learning experience for me. I hope this helps some of you out there. Remember, your skin is the largest organ in your body, so take care of it!
