Okay, so, I’ve been getting into this whole rucking thing lately. You know, walking with a weighted backpack? It’s supposed to be a great workout. But I was curious about how many calories I was actually burning. So, I started to find a way to figure that out.
First, I went on the internet to search, typed in “rucking calories burned calculator”, and I found a bunch of websites that claimed they could calculate it. I started to check them out.
- Some of them just gave me a general number based on my weight and how long I walked.
- Others asked for more details, like the weight of my backpack and how fast I was going.
So I took down some of my info. My weight, how heavy my backpack was, the distance I usually ruck, and my average speed. Then, I started plugging these numbers into the different calculators.
I noticed I got pretty different results from each calculator. Some gave me lower estimates, some higher. It felt a bit all over the place.
Keep testing…
I decided I needed to do more experiments. I used a fitness tracker watch to measure my heart rate and steps during my rucks. I did this for a week, trying different distances and weights in my backpack.
After a week of rucking and recording, I compared the fitness tracker’s calorie burn estimates to what the online calculators were telling me. Some of the calculators were pretty close to the fitness tracker, but others were way off.
Finally, I picked the calculator that seemed to match my fitness tracker the closest. I figured that was probably the most accurate one for me. Now, I just use that calculator to estimate my calorie burn whenever I go rucking.
It was a bit of trial and error, but it was cool to see the differences and figure out which calculator worked best for me. Now I have a better idea of how many calories I’m torching on my rucks!
