Seedwater, you say? Well, I heard folks talking ’bout that. Sounds fancy, but plants need water, that’s for sure. Like us old folks, gotta have our water to keep going! Ain’t nothin’ more important than good, clean water. These young people, they get all them fancy drinks. My old bones just need plain water.
Now, seedwater, I reckon it’s just water you give them little baby seeds. Gotta keep ’em moist, like a damp rag. Not too wet, mind you, or they’ll rot. Just enough to make ’em sprout. Like when you soak beans overnight before cookin’. Same idea, I suppose. Seeds is like beans, kinda. These little seeds, they so tiny, you need good eyes to see them!
Folks, they say starting seeds is a good way. You can grow many plants. My old garden, it was full of everything, tomatoes, beans, you name it. These days, people just buy everything from the store, no taste in them. My tomatoes, they were red like a fire truck, and sweet like honey. You young people don’t know what you are missing!
- You gotta have good dirt, not that hard clay stuff.
- Need some pots, or them little trays.
- And the seeds, of course! Don’t forget the seeds!
- Water, gotta have that seedwater.
- Sun, gotta have the sun shining on them.
I used to just use old tin cans, poke some holes in the bottom. Worked just fine. Didn’t need no fancy pots like they sell now. Waste of money, I say. These young people always buying stuff they don’t need. Back in my day, we made do with what we have. All that plastic now, it’s not good for the earth.
They say you can start seeds without dirt. Hydro-something, they call it. Sounds like witchcraft to me. Plants need dirt, that’s what I always say. Like a fish needs water, a plant needs dirt. But what do I know? I’m just an old lady. Still, makes no sense, growing plants without dirt.
But that seedwater, that’s important, dirt or no dirt. Keeps them little seeds happy. You gotta water them just right. Too much, they drown. Too little, they dry up. Just like Goldilocks, gotta be just right. If you don’t water your seeds, you won’t get any plants, that’s for sure.
When I was a girl, we didn’t have no fancy seed packets. We just saved seeds from the year before. Like them big sunflowers, the ones with the black seeds. We’d roast ’em up, eat ’em all winter. Salty and good. Nowadays, all these fancy seeds, they get them from far away. Not like in my time.
I hear tell there’s different kinds of seeds. Big ones, small ones, round ones, flat ones. All these different kinds of plants, it’s a wonder. Nature is something, ain’t it? Makes you think. All them different colors and shapes, coming from a tiny little seed. It’s like a miracle, if you ask me.
You need tools, they say. Little shovels and things. I just used my fingers. Worked just fine. Got dirt under my nails, but that’s okay. Honest dirt never hurt nobody. These days, people are afraid of a little dirt. Gotta have those gloves and all that.
That seedwater, though. That’s the key. Water, and sun, and a little bit of love. That’s all them seeds need. Just like us, really. We all need a little bit of love to grow. And water, of course. Can’t forget the water. Keeps us alive, keeps the plants alive. It’s the circle of life, I reckon.
These days, everyone is in a hurry. They don’t take the time to watch things grow. It’s all instant this, and instant that. If they just slow down a bit, they might see the beauty in nature. A tiny seed, a little bit of seedwater, and then bam! You got a whole plant. It’s amazing, really. It’s a good life, growing things. Makes you feel good, makes you feel connected to the earth. Young folks should try it sometime.
