You know, this PCOS thing, it’s a real pain in the neck. They say it messes with your sugar levels, makes you all insulin resistant and what not. My granddaughter, she’s got it. Poor thing. Always tired, and she gets those pesky pimples. And her periods, oh don’t even get me started! So I says to her, “Honey, you gotta watch what you eat!”
It ain’t easy, with all them tasty treats around. But you gotta be smart about it. Snacks, they ain’t the enemy. It’s what kinda snacks you’re munching on, that’s the key. And what else you are eating. If you’re just stuffing your face with junk all day, then yeah, a healthy snack ain’t gonna do much.
But if you’re eating right, mostly, then a good snack can be a lifesaver. Keeps you from getting too hungry, you know? And that’s when you start craving those bad things. So I told my granddaughter, “Keep some healthy snacks around, so you ain’t tempted by them chips and candies.”
Now, what kinda snacks are we talking about? Well, let me tell ya, there’s plenty of good stuff out there.
- Nuts and Seeds: Them little things are packed with good stuff. Like them almonds and walnuts. And sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds. Just a handful will do ya.
- Fruits: Apples, berries, oranges. Just watch out for the real sugary ones, like them grapes. A few is fine, but don’t go overboard. Berries are really good, though. I always get some strawberries from my neighbor when they are in season. That old lady Mary, she’s a good woman.
- Veggies: I know, I know, nobody likes veggies. But they’re good for ya! Carrot sticks, celery sticks, cucumber. You can even dip ’em in a little something if you need to. Like that hummus stuff, or a little bit of peanut butter, not too much. It’s good for your health.
- Hard-boiled Eggs: Now these are good. Protein, you know? Keeps you full. Just boil a bunch at the beginning of the week and keep ’em in the fridge.
- Yogurt: The plain kind, not that sugary stuff. You can add a few berries or a sprinkle of nuts to it if you want. Greek yogurt, they call it. It’s thicker. My granddaughter likes it.
And that Oats thing, they call it overnight oats. You just mix some oats with milk or yogurt, and whatever else you like, and leave it in the fridge overnight. It is a good healthy snack for PCOS. In the morning, it’s all ready to eat. Easy peasy. Oats are good for that PCOS. I heard that from a TV show. They are good for everything, I think. Keep you regular, too. And they’re cheap! We always had oats when I was a girl. Didn’t have all these fancy cereals back then.
You see, it ain’t that hard to eat healthy, even with that PCOS. Just gotta be mindful. Plan ahead. Don’t wait till you’re starving to figure out what to eat. That’s when you make bad choices. Don’t eat too much junk food. Chips and Coca-Cola are not good for health.
And it ain’t just about snacks, neither. You gotta watch what you’re eating for your other meals, too. Less of that fried stuff, more of the baked and grilled. More veggies, less of the white bread and pasta. It’s all common sense, really. My old mama, God rest her soul, she always said, “Everything in moderation.” And she was right.
And water! Don’t forget to drink your water. Keeps you hydrated, helps you feel full. Sometimes you think you’re hungry, but you’re really just thirsty. Carry around a big bottle of water like everybody does these days, if you have to.
And move around a little! Don’t just sit on your behind all day. Take a walk, do some gardening, chase the chickens around the yard if you got ’em. Anything to get your heart pumping a little. Even just walking to the mailbox and back is better than nothing. Just don’t stay at home watching TV all day long.
This PCOS, it ain’t the end of the world. You just gotta be a little smarter about what you put in your mouth. And listen to your body. It will tell you what you need. If you treat it right, it’ll treat you right. Just eat those healthy snacks. That’s what I always say. Ain’t no magic pill, you know. Just good old-fashioned common sense. And a little bit of willpower. You got this! Just like my granddaughter. She’s doing alright. She’s a strong girl. She’ll figure it out. We all do, eventually. We all need to take care of our body. It’s the only one we got.
