Alright, let’s talk about this… this lipo-something, yeah? Liposuction, that’s what the doctor called it. You know, sucking the fat out. Sounds kinda scary, right? But hey, I wanted to look a little less like a stuffed sausage, you know? So, I went for it. But lemme tell ya, there’s a whole bunch of stuff they don’t tell you straight up. Like, smoking, for instance.
Now, I ain’t gonna lie, I like my smokes. Been puffing away for… well, let’s just say a long darn time. Never thought much of it, ‘cept when I run out and gotta hike to the store. But this doctor, he starts in on me about smoking and this lipo thing. Says it’s bad, real bad. Something about blood not flowing right, and the skin not healing up good.
So, What’s the Big Deal About Smoking Before Liposuction?
He went on and on, using all them fancy doctor words. But what I got from it was this: smoking messes things up, big time, if you’re getting fat sucked out. See, smoking makes your blood vessels all tight and skinny. Like, they ain’t supposed to be that way. And when they’re all tight, the blood can’t get to where it needs to go. And that’s bad news for healing, he says.
- Healing Problems: The doctor kept saying, “Poor wound healing!” Like I knew what that meant exactly. But then he explained, kinda like when you get a cut, and it takes forever to close up? That’s what he meant. Smoking makes it take even longer for your skin to heal after lipo. And that’s asking for trouble.
- Infection Risk: Then he starts talking about germs, you know, those nasty little things that make you sick. Says if your blood ain’t flowing right, the medicine can’t get there to fight off the germs. And then, BAM! You got yourself an infection. And infections after surgery? No, thank you!
- Scarring: And the scars! Nobody wants big, ugly scars, right? Well, smoking makes your scars worse, he says. They get bigger, thicker, and just plain uglier. Who needs that? Not this old lady.
When Should You Stop Smoking?
The doctor, he tells me I gotta stop smoking, like, way before the surgery. Not just the day before, or even a week before. He says, the sooner, the better. At least eight weeks, he says! Eight weeks! That’s like, forever! He says it gives your body time to get the blood flowing right again. Makes sense, I guess. But quitting ain’t easy, let me tell ya. It’s like trying to stop eating your favorite pie, only harder.
And it ain’t just cigarettes, he says. It’s all that nicotine stuff. You know, the patches, the gum, even those fancy vape thingies. All gotta go. Nicotine is the bad guy here, he says. Keeps them blood vessels all tight and skinny.
So What if You Can’t Quit?
Okay, so I tried quitting. I really did. But it’s tough, you know? Like trying to teach an old dog new tricks. So, I asked the doctor, “What if I just can’t quit? Can I still get the lipo?” He looked at me, all serious-like, and said, “Well, it’s a lot riskier. You could have serious problems. The choice is yours, but I strongly advise against it.” He scared me straight, I tell ya.
What About After the Liposuction?
And then he says, even after the surgery, I gotta stay away from the smokes. For weeks, he says. Maybe even longer. Gotta let the body heal up proper. No smoking, no second-hand smoke, none of that nicotine stuff. It’s like they want to take away all the fun in life! But, I guess looking less like a sausage is worth it. Maybe. I’m still deciding if it’s worth all the trouble
My Two Cents
Look, I ain’t no doctor, but I’m telling ya, this lipo thing and smoking, they don’t mix. If you’re thinking about getting it done, listen to your doctor. Seriously. They know what they’re talking about, even if they use them fancy words. And if you smoke, try your best to quit. It ain’t easy, but it’s for your own good. And if you can’t quit, well, think long and hard about whether lipo is worth the risk. Maybe just try eating a little less pie instead. That’s what I should have done maybe.
At the end of the day, you gotta do what’s right for you. But remember, your health is more important than anything. And those cigarettes ain’t doing you no favors, especially when you’re messing with surgery. That’s all I’m saying. I hope this helps someone understand things better. It was all a bit confusing to me at first.
Anyways, that’s all I got to say about that smoking and lipo stuff. Hope it makes some sense to ya.
