Okay, so lately, I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather, you know, with the usual cold symptoms – stuffy nose, sore throat, the whole nine yards. I remembered my grandma’s old remedy, this thing called Kadha. She always swore by it whenever we got sick as kids. So, I thought, why not give it a shot?
I started by digging through my spice cabinet.
First, I grabbed some fresh ginger, about an inch, and peeled it. Then, I found some cloves, around four or five, and a handful of black peppercorns, maybe five or six. I also managed to find some fresh basil leaves from my little herb garden – I used about five or six of those too.
- Ginger, about 1 inch, peeled
- Cloves, 4-5
- Black peppercorns, 5-6
- Fresh basil leaves, 5-6
- Water, 2 cups
With all the ingredients gathered, I filled a pot with about two cups of water and put it on the stove. While the water was heating up, I crushed the ginger a bit just to release its juices – didn’t even bother with a fancy tool, just used the back of a spoon. Once the water started to boil, I tossed in the crushed ginger, cloves, black peppercorns, and the basil leaves.
I let the whole mixture boil for a good 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. The aroma that filled my kitchen was something else – spicy, herby, and kind of comforting. After it boiled down and reduced a bit, I turned off the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
Then, I poured the Kadha through a strainer into my favorite mug. I added a little bit of honey to sweeten it up – that’s optional, but I like it that way. And there it was, my homemade Kadha, ready to work its magic.
I’ve been sipping on it a couple of times a day, and honestly, it does seem to help. My throat feels a bit better, and my nose is not as stuffy. Plus, it’s kind of soothing to drink something warm and homemade when you’re not feeling your best.
Result?
It’s no miracle cure, but it’s definitely a comforting and potentially helpful remedy for cold symptoms. Plus, it’s all-natural, which is a big plus in my book. I’d say it’s worth a try if you’re battling a cold and looking for some relief!
I wanted to share this, but I can’t guarantee this will work for you. I just hope this can help anyone who is having a cold. You know, it made me feel better when I had a cold.
