Okay, so let me tell you about this thing I tried recently – mental health coloring books. Yeah, you heard that right, coloring books. I know it sounds kinda childish, but hear me out.
It all started a few weeks ago when I was feeling super stressed. Work was crazy, life was hectic, and I just needed a way to chill out. I’m talking about a bad situation.
I remembered seeing something online about coloring books for adults and their benefits for mental health. I’m not gonna lie, I was skeptical at first. I thought it was just a silly trend, but hey, I was desperate.
So, I went ahead and bought one online. There were tons to choose from, with all sorts of designs – mandalas, animals, nature scenes, you name it. I picked one with some intricate floral patterns, ’cause why not? It looks nice, right?
When it arrived, I grabbed my old box of colored pencils, the ones I hadn’t used since I was a kid. I sat down at my kitchen table, put on some chill music, and started coloring.
Here’s what I did:
- Picked a page: I flipped through the book and chose a design that caught my eye. Something not too complicated to start with.
- Chose my colors: This was actually kind of fun. I decided to go with a calming palette of blues and greens.
- Started coloring: I just focused on filling in the spaces, one section at a time. No pressure to be perfect or anything.
And you know what? It was surprisingly relaxing. I felt my mind start to quiet down as I focused on the simple act of coloring. It was like a mini-meditation session or something. It was amazing. I just lost in the colors and shapes, and my worries. Everything seemed to fade away for a while.
I ended up coloring for about an hour, and when I was done, I felt way more relaxed than I had in ages. It was like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I didn’t expect that. Seriously!
Now, I try to color for at least a few minutes every day. It’s become my go-to way to unwind and de-stress. It’s such a simple thing, but it really makes a difference for me.
I’m not saying it’s a magic cure for all your problems, but if you’re looking for a simple and affordable way to improve your mental health, I’d definitely recommend giving it a try. Who knows, you might be surprised at how much you enjoy it. And, you can pick up your old colored pencils and give it a try. Maybe you can find a new way to relax. Why not give it a try?
Oh, and a little tip from my experience: don’t use those heavy markers or watercolors unless the paper in your book is thick enough. I learned that the hard way. You know, just use regular colored pencils or crayons, and you’ll be fine. Just enjoy the process, and don’t worry about being perfect. Just be yourself!
