Alright, let’s talk about this bay leaf tea, you know, the kind they say is good for ya. I ain’t no fancy doctor or nothin’, but I can tell ya what I know and how I make it. Don’t expect no fancy words or measurements, I just eyeball it, ya know? Like my grandma used to.
First off, you gotta get yourself some of them bay leaves. You can use fresh ones if you got a tree, lucky you. I mostly use the dried ones, them little hard leaves from the store. Don’t go eatin’ ‘em straight though, they ain’t for that. You need water, plain ol’ water from the tap is fine. And if you want it sweet, get some honey. I like a squeeze of lemon in mine too, makes it taste a bit brighter.
- Get yourself a pot. Not too big, not too small.
- Fill it up with water. How much? Well, enough for a cup or two, depends on how thirsty ya are.
- Put the pot on the stove, turn the fire on medium-ish. Let it get hot, ya know, start bubblin’.
Now, while the water’s heatin’ up, wash them bay leaves if they’re fresh. If they’re dried, well, they’re probably alright. Once the water’s boilin’ good, toss in a handful of bay leaves. Don’t be stingy, but don’t go throwin’ in the whole bag neither. A good handful, that’s what I say.
Let them leaves boil in the water for a bit, maybe 15 or 20 minutes. You’ll see the water turnin’ this nice brown color, that’s how you know it’s workin’. Then, turn off the fire and let it sit for a while longer, another 15 minutes or so. This is the important part, let’s the good stuff from the leaves get into the water, ya see?
After it’s steeped good, pour it into a cup. Be careful, it’ll be hot! Now, if you want it sweet, stir in a spoonful of honey. And like I said, I like a bit of lemon, so I squeeze some of that in too. Mix it all up and there ya go, bay leaf tea.
Now, what’s it good for? Well, folks say it helps with aches and pains. You know, when your joints get all stiff and achy. My old knees ain’t what they used to be, so I drink this sometimes. Seems to help a bit, or maybe it’s just the warm drink that feels good. Can’t hurt to try, right?
Some people say it’s good for when you got a cold. Helps with the cough and stuffy nose and all that. I can’t say for sure, but it does make you feel kinda warm and cozy, which is nice when you’re feelin’ under the weather. It also makes you pee more, which they say is good for you to get rid of the swelling and gas.
And this one lady told me it’s good for calming you down. Makes you relax and sleep better. Well, maybe it does. I ain’t got no trouble sleepin’, but it does make me feel kinda peaceful when I drink it. And it sure smells good, that’s for sure. It makes your belly less bloated too, but you can’t just drink tea and do nothing, got to eat good and move around some too.
So there ya have it. That’s how I make bay leaf tea. It ain’t rocket science, just a simple ol’ drink that might do ya some good. And even if it don’t, it tastes alright and it’s warm and comforting. Sometimes that’s all ya need, ya know?
Anyways, that’s enough talkin’ for one day. Go on now and make yourself some tea. And don’t forget to wash your pot when you’re done!
