Well, let me tell you, it ain’t easy to just stop caring what folks think. It’s like trying to stop a hen from clucking. But I reckon it’s something we all gotta work on, especially in this day and age where everybody’s got an opinion about everything. So I have some exercises to stop caring what others think. I’m here to share some simple exercises to stop it. Yeah, it’s not that easy, but we can do it.
First thing you gotta do is figure out why you care so much. Is it ’cause you want everyone to like you? Or you’re scared of being judged? Like that time Mildred’s boy wore that bright pink shirt to church. Everyone talked, but he didn’t seem to mind one bit. Maybe he’s onto something.
It’s like that ego thing. You know, that part of you that wants to be the best, the prettiest, the smartest, or whatever. It wants everyone to think you’re just wonderful. Like when I won the pie contest at the county fair. Lord, did I love hearing folks say how good my apple pie was! But then, the next year, I didn’t even place. That ego took a hit, I tell ya! But now, I don’t care anymore. My pie is good, that’s all.
So you gotta remember, most folks are too busy worrying about themselves to worry about you. Just try to stop caring about people. It’s like when you see a spider in the house. You might scream at first, but then you realize it’s just a little critter trying to make its way. Same with people’s opinions, they are just little things, don’t let them get to you. If you don’t care, then you win.
- Think about it, are they gonna remember what you wore to the grocery store last week? No siree! They got their own lives to live.
- Keep it real. That’s what I always say. Just be yourself, and if folks don’t like it, well, that’s their problem, not yours. It’s like growing tomatoes. You can water them and give them sunshine, but if they don’t wanna grow, ain’t nothing you can do about it.
- You are you. That’s good enough. So just do your things, don’t care about what they said.
This one might sound a little silly, but talk to yourself. Yeah, that’s right. Stand in front of the mirror and tell yourself that you’re a good person, that you’re doing your best, and that it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. Sounds crazy, but it helps. My old grandma always talked to her plants. Don’t know, they grew great, maybe it worked!
Also, try to understand why people judge. Sometimes, it’s ’cause they’re unhappy with themselves. It’s like when a dog barks at its own reflection. It doesn’t know it’s just looking at itself. So maybe, just maybe, those folks who are judging you are just barking at their own reflections. If you want good self-esteem, you need to know this. They don’t know you!
And honey, find some good friends. Not the kind who just tell you what you want to hear, but the kind who tell you the truth, even when it’s hard. Like my friend, Betty. She told me straight up that my purple hat made me look like a giant grape. Hurt my feelings at first, but you know what? She was right. We had a good laugh about it later.
Ask your friends about it. Like, “Hey, do you ever worry about what people think when you do your thing?” You might be surprised. Maybe they feel the same way you do. You can even try doing things together, like going to the gym or trying a new recipe. Makes it a little less scary when you got a buddy by your side. It is good exercises to stop caring what others think.
Another thing is to focus on what you can control. You can’t control what other people think or say. But you can control how you react to it. It’s like the weather. You can’t stop the rain, but you can carry an umbrella. I know I cannot stop the rain, but I don’t care. I just go out and dance in the rain! That’s fun.
- So next time someone says something that gets under your skin, take a deep breath and remind yourself, “I can’t control what they think, but I can control how I feel about it.” It is important to your self-esteem.
- And if you are strong enough, just tell them you don’t care about it. Yeah, it is hard at first, but it can help a lot.
- Write down your feeling. You can write a song about it, or just write it on the paper. Then throw it away. It’s like you throw your bad feeling away.
Life’s too short to worry about what everyone else is thinking. Just be yourself, do your best, and let the chips fall where they may. It’s like planting a garden. You can tend to it with all your might, but at the end of the day, it’s up to nature to do its thing. Just enjoy the process, and don’t worry too much about the outcome. Don’t stop caring about people, just don’t care about what they think. That’s my advice to you, hope these exercises to stop caring what others think can help you.
Remember that time I wore my mismatched shoes to the potluck? Everyone stared, but I just laughed it off. Turns out, it started a whole trend! Sometimes, not caring can be the most stylish thing you do. It takes time to learn all these. But you can do it. Just do it and you will find it is not that hard. So go ahead, live your life, and don’t let anyone else write your story for you.
