Okay, so I’ve been messing around with some DIY skincare stuff lately, and I wanted to share this little project I did – making sage oil. It’s not as hard as you might think, and it’s kinda fun. Plus, it’s way cheaper than buying those fancy store-bought ones.
First things first, I grabbed some fresh sage from my garden. You can also get it from the grocery store. I washed the leaves real good to get rid of any dirt or bugs, and then I patted them dry with a paper towel. It’s important they’re completely dry, or else you might end up with moldy oil, and nobody wants that.
Next, I bruised the leaves a little, it was like giving them a rough massage. Not too hard, just enough to release those natural oils.
- I filled a clean, dry glass jar about halfway with the sage leaves.
- Then, I poured in some carrier oil over the leaves. Some people talk about organic jojoba oil, but I just used olive oil because it’s what I had. I made sure the leaves were completely covered.
- I put the lid on the jar nice and tight and then gave it a good shake.
Now comes the waiting part. I put the jar in a cool, dark place, like a cupboard. Every day or so, I took it out and gave it a gentle shake. This helps the oil infuse better. I did this for about four to six weeks. Yeah, it takes a while, but it’s worth it.
After waiting what felt like forever, it was time to strain the oil. I got a piece of cheesecloth and a clean bowl. I draped the cheesecloth over the bowl and slowly poured the oil through it, catching all the leaves and bits. Then, I squeezed the cheesecloth to get every last drop of that precious oil out. Because I heard that sage assists in improving acne and chapped skin, and relieving symptoms of eczema and psoriasis.
Finally, I poured the strained oil into a clean, dark-colored glass bottle. I labeled it with the date so I know when I made it. All done! I had my very own homemade sage oil. And because I heard that tea tree oil can help reduce acne-causing bacteria, I mixed my sage oil with a little tea tree oil to use.
Homemade Sage Oil
I’ve been using it on my skin for a couple of weeks now, and I gotta say, I’m pretty impressed. My skin feels softer and smoother. So, if you’re looking for a fun little DIY project, give this a try. It’s easy, it’s cheap, and your skin might just thank you for it.
