Well now, listen here, you want to make them wet walnuts, huh? It’s real simple-like, just like when I used to make goodies for the grandkids. First off, you need some walnuts. Not them dried ones, mind you, but fresh ones if you can find ’em. You can also use the regular ones, just make sure they ain’t too old. Fresh ones are best, I tell ya.
Here’s what you need:
- 1 1/2 cups of walnuts
- 1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon of dark amber maple syrup
- 1/4 cup of light corn syrup
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Now, you gather all them ingredients and let’s get to cookin’! First, you take your walnuts, give ’em a good wash to get rid of the dirt. Then, you throw ’em in a pot with some water. Just enough to cover them walnuts, you see? Bring it to a boil, then let it simmer for about 5 minutes. This helps to make ’em nice and soft.
While that’s happenin’, you can take another pot. In that pot, put your butter on low heat. Once it melts, pour in that lovely maple syrup and the corn syrup. Give it a good stir, and let it warm up a bit. You want it all mixed up and bubbly, like a nice hot bath for them walnuts!
When your walnuts are done simmerin’, drain ’em well. You don’t want too much water messin’ things up. Then, add them walnuts to your syrupy mix. Stir it all together, make sure each walnut is nice and covered. Then, add in that vanilla. Oh boy, the smell is just divine!
Let it cook on low for about 10 minutes. You want them walnuts to soak up that sweetness. Keep stirrin’ now and then, don’t let it stick to the bottom!
When it’s done, turn off the heat and let ’em cool. You can put ’em in a jar or just keep ’em in the pot. But I reckon you should eat ‘em soon, ‘cause fresh is always best. You can use these wet walnuts on all sorts of things! They’re perfect on ice cream sundaes, pancakes, or even just plain yogurt.
Now, if you happen to have any left over, don’t fret. Just make sure you put ’em in the fridge, but eat ’em within a week. Otherwise, they might get all funny and not taste so good. Trust me, you don’t want that.
So there you have it, a simple way to make wet walnuts. Just like the old days, simple and sweet. Enjoy it, and share with your family. They’ll love ya for it!
