Okay, so, I’ve been seeing a lot of buzz about glycolic acid lately, especially for us teenagers. I got curious and wanted to see what the hype was all about.
First things first, I already have a moisturizer and sunscreen that I use every day. The internet kept screaming about how important those are if you’re gonna mess with glycolic acid, so I figured I was good to go on that front.
I went to a drug store near me and grabbed a glycolic acid cleanser. I wanted to start with a cleanser because it washes off. I read it’s good for blackheads, and trust me, I’ve got a galaxy of them on my nose.
My Glycolic Acid Routine
- Week 1:
- Used the cleanser just once, on a Sunday night. I wanted to see how my skin would react. I cleansed my face like normal, then rinsed it off and followed up with my usual moisturizer.
- Felt a little tingling, but nothing crazy. My skin was a bit red right after, but it went away pretty fast.
- Week 2:
- Upped it to twice this week, on Tuesday and Friday nights. Still just cleansing and moisturizing.
- The blackheads on my nose started to look a little less… intense? It was hard to tell for sure, but I felt like they were smaller, which was great!
- Week 3:
- Stuck with twice a week. My skin seemed to be handling it okay. I was extra diligent about sunscreen during the day, just in case.
- Definitely noticing a difference in my skin texture. It felt smoother overall. Even my mom noticed, and she notices nothing!
- Week 4:
- I’m still using the cleanser twice a week. It’s become a regular part of my routine now.
- The blackheads are way less noticeable. My skin tone seems more even, too. I had some redness around my cheeks before, and that’s calmed down a lot.
So, yeah, that’s where I’m at with glycolic acid. It’s been a month, and I’m pretty happy with the results. I didn’t have any major freakouts or irritation. I went slow, listened to my skin, and made sure to use my moisturizer and sunscreen. I think that’s the key. I am going to keep using my cleanser twice a week and see if my skin keeps improving. I also read that glycolic acid can help with body acne, so I might try the cleanser on my shoulders and back, too.
If you’re a teenager thinking about trying glycolic acid, I’d say go for it, but just be smart about it. Start slow, use it maybe once or twice a week at most in the beginning, and don’t forget that moisturizer and sunscreen! We’ll see how it goes with the body acne experiment, I can do a part two if it works out.
