This here hair color thing, they call it ammonia free. My neighbor’s daughter, she’s always changing her hair, you know? One day it’s red, next it’s blue. She told me about this new stuff, says it’s better for your hair.
Back in my day, we just used what we had. Didn’t worry too much about all these fancy things. But I guess times are changing. This ammonia-free hair color, they say it ain’t as harsh. You know, regular hair dye, it can make your hair all dry and brittle, like that old straw broom we got out back.
So, this ammonia-free hair dye, it’s supposed to be gentler. They say it don’t stink as much either. That regular stuff, it can just about knock you out with the smell! Like cleaning the outhouse on a hot summer day, you know what I mean?
- This new stuff, they say it’s better for the earth too.
- Don’t ask me how, something about chemicals and the air.
- I just know it’s supposed to be a good thing.
If you wanna color your hair and not have it all fall out, maybe this is the way to go. That’s what that girl told me, anyway. She said it’s good for people with, what did she call it, sensitive scalps? Yeah, like if your head gets all itchy and red easy. This stuff is supposed to be easier on it.
They got all kinds of colors now, too. Not just your browns and blacks. They got pink, purple, even green! Imagine that. Green hair. When I was young, the only green hair was that moldy bread we forgot in the cupboard.
You can use this ammonia free hair color at home, too. Don’t need to go to no fancy salon. Just slap it on, wait a bit, and wash it out. Sounds easy enough, even for an old gal like me. ‘Course, you gotta be careful not to get it on your clothes. Stains like the dickens, I bet.
They say this no ammonia hair dye is good if your hair is already messed up. You know, from other things you done to it. Like those curling irons, or that bleach stuff. This new dye won’t make it worse, they say. Might even make it a little better, who knows?
Now, I ain’t no expert on this hair color stuff. I’m just telling you what I heard. But it sounds like this ammonia-free is the way to go these days. It’s like everything else, I guess. Always something new coming out, supposed to be better than the old stuff.
- They say it’s “salon-worthy”.
- Whatever that means.
- Just means it looks good, I reckon.
I remember when we used to use henna. Made your hair all orange, it did. And it took forever to wash out. This new stuff, they say it washes out easier. Don’t know if that’s true or not, but that’s what they say.
Some of these new hair color without ammonia, got oil in them. Yeah, oil! Like for cooking, but not the same kind, I hope. They say it makes your hair shiny and soft. Like that fancy conditioner stuff, but it’s in the dye itself. Pretty clever, huh?
The girl next door, she uses this brand, Garnier Olia. Says it’s the best. Don’t know about that, but her hair does look pretty good, I gotta admit. Even that bright blue she had last week.
They say you gotta use a thin dye, not that thick, goopy stuff. That goopy stuff can get stuck in your hair, ‘specially if you got those, what do they call them, locs? Like that singer, Bob Marley. Yeah, that’s it. Thin dye is better for them, they say.
So, if you’re thinking about coloring your hair, maybe give this ammonia-free hair color a try. It might be just what the doctor ordered. Or the hairdresser, I guess. Just don’t blame me if you end up with green hair! Unless you want green hair, that is. Then go for it, I say!
This whole no ammonia hair color is somethin’ else, ain’t it? Times are changin’, that’s for sure. But I guess some change is good. ‘Specially if it means your hair won’t fall out from all that dyein’. That’s a good thing, right?
Just remember what I said about the smell. Even this new stuff might stink a little. So open a window, maybe. And don’t get it on your good clothes. And if you got any questions, ask that girl next door. She knows all about this stuff. This ammonia free hair dye seems to be good for your hair. Just try to use it, and you will know if it’s good.
