Well, let me tell you, that sun out there, it ain’t no joke. My old face, it’s seen a lot of sun in its day. You gotta cover up, that’s what I always say. These days, they got all sorts of fancy things for your face. Back in my day, we just used a big ol’ hat. But now, you need a face covering for sun. Keep that sun off your skin.
They call it “sunscreen” now. Fancy word for something that keeps the sun from burnin’ ya. I seen some that come in a spray. My granddaughter, she uses that. Spray, spray, spray all over. She says it’s easy. Says it keeps the sun away. I don’t know about all that, but her skin does look good. They call it SPF level or somethin’. Higher the number the better, she says. Keeps those bad rays, UV rays, they call ’em, away from your skin.
I saw another kind, comes in like a powder. Like that face powder the ladies used to use. You just dust it on your face. Says it works like the other stuff, but it’s dry. Maybe good for folks who don’t like that greasy feelin’. Powder sunscreen, that’s what it is. Just dust it on and you’re good to go. I guess that’s what they say anyway.
Then there’s this other stuff, face mask, they call it. It ain’t like a mask you wear on your face, though. It’s more like mud. Green mud or black mud. You smear it all over your face, and it’s supposed to clean your skin real good. Takes out all the dirt and oil, makes your skin look better. I seen some made with green clay, some with charcoal. It’s called charcoal face mask, I think. Don’t know how that works, but they say it’s good for ya. Make your skin look younger, they say. Ha! I wouldn’t mind that.
Now, why do you need all this? Well, that sun, it’s powerful. It can do a number on your skin. Wrinkles, spots, all sorts of things. Not just that, they say it can make you sick. Real sick. So, you gotta be careful. You need to protect your skin. Sun protection is important, don’t matter if you’re young or old. That sun don’t care how old you are.
My granddaughter told me you gotta pick the right one. The right facial sunscreen. Says some of ’em can make your skin break out. Like pimples and such. Some can make your skin all red and itchy. So, you gotta find one that works for you. One that protects you from the sun but don’t make your skin feel bad.
Here’s what I think are the most important things:
- Sunscreen spray – Easy to use, just spray it on. My granddaughter loves it.
- Powder sunscreen – Good if you don’t like that greasy feel. Just dust it on.
- Face mask – Not a real mask, but mud you put on your face. Cleans your skin.
- SPF level – The higher the number the better. Protects you from UV rays.
I remember old Mrs. Johnson, she never covered up. Always out in the sun, workin’ in her garden. Well, her face, it looked like an old leather boot by the time she was my age. All wrinkled and tough. And she got sick, too. Real sick. Doctor said it was from the sun. So, you listen to me, you cover up.
They got all these choices now. It’s confusing, I know. But you just gotta find what works for you. Me, I still like my big ol’ hat. But I use that sunscreen, too. The one my granddaughter gave me. It’s that spray sunscreen. It’s easy enough, and I figure a little extra protection can’t hurt.
And that face mask stuff, I tried it once. Felt kinda funny, all that mud on my face. But my skin did feel softer afterward. Maybe I’ll try it again sometime. I might try that powder sunscreen, too. Always good to have options. I guess that’s what folks say.
So, you be careful out there in that sun. It ain’t nothin’ to mess with. Get yourself some sunscreen, a hat, whatever you need. Just make sure you protect your skin. You only get one face, you know. You gotta take care of it. And don’t forget about those UV rays. They’re sneaky little devils.
Don’t end up like poor old Mrs. Johnson. Use that face covering for sun. It will keep you lookin’ young. I wish someone told me that when I was young. These days, you young folks got it easy. So many choices to pick from. Back in my day, we only had big ol’ hats, and they didn’t even have those fancy SPF levels back then. But we made do. We always make do.
