This here skin, it’s a tricky thing, you know? Mine’s been actin’ up lately, drier than a well in July. And I been hearin’ folks talkin’ ’bout this here dehydrated skin. Sounds fancy, but it ain’t nothin’ but trouble, I reckon.
So, I been tryin’ to figure out what in tarnation is goin’ on. They say this dehydrated skin ain’t the same as just plain ol’ dry skin. Dry skin, that’s just not havin’ enough of that oily stuff your body makes. But this dehydrated thing, well, that’s somethin’ else entirely. It’s like your skin’s just plain thirsty, like it ain’t gettin’ enough water from the inside. And let me tell ya, it ain’t pretty.
- My skin feels tight, like an old drum.
- It gets all itchy and flaky, like a bad case of the heebie-jeebies.
- And the wrinkles! Lord, have mercy, they seem to pop up overnight.
- You see fine lines around my eyes and mouth, looking like a dried-up river bed.
Now, I ain’t no spring chicken, but I ain’t ready to look like an old prune just yet. So, I been doin’ some lookin’ around, tryin’ to find somethin’ to help with this dehydrated skin situation. Seems like there’s a whole heap of things that can cause it.
First off, they say you gotta drink your water. Eight glasses a day, they say. Well, I try, but sometimes I just plain forget. And then there’s that coffee I love so much. Turns out, that can dry you out too. Who knew? And don’t even get me started on the weather. That cold winter air just sucks the moisture right outta ya, and in summer, the hot sun bakes it all the way. It’s a wonder any of us have any moisture left at all! I try to remember to drink more, especially in the summer and winter, but it is hard.
Then there’s what you put on your skin. Some of them soaps and lotions, they’re full of stuff that can strip your skin bare. Harsh chemicals, they call ’em. I try to stick to the gentle stuff, but sometimes it’s hard to tell what’s what. I just want to clean it up, you know?
So, what’s a body to do about this dehydrated skin? Well, here’s what I been tryin’:
- Drinkin’ more water. Like I said, it ain’t easy, but I’m tryin’. I keep a jug on the counter to remind me.
- Eatin’ more fruits and veggies. They got water in ’em, and they’re good for you besides. Apples, cucumbers, and watermelons, they got a lot of water, which is good.
- Usin’ a humidifier. That’s one of them machines that puts moisture back in the air. I run it at night, and it seems to help some.
- Tryin’ to find a good moisturizer. One that ain’t too greasy, but still does the job. It’s a lot of trial and error, let me tell ya.
- Avoid hot shower water. Too hot water will make your skin dry, it is like the summer sun. Using warm water is better.
Now, I ain’t sayin’ I got all the answers. This dehydrated skin is a tough nut to crack. But I’m doin’ my best to take care of myself, and that’s all any of us can do. And I tell you, I just want my skin to feel good again, you know? Not like some old, dried-up leather. I want it to be soft and not all itchy. It is hard when you get older, things just do not work as well.
You know, they say beauty’s only skin deep. But when your skin’s all dehydrated and unhappy, it’s hard to feel good about anything. You need to take care of your skin, no matter what. It is hard and takes work, but it is important. So, I’ll keep on tryin’, keep on learnin’, and keep on hopin’ for the best. Maybe one day, I’ll figure out this whole dehydrated skin thing for good. But until then, I’ll just keep slatherin’ on that moisturizer and prayin’ for rain. It is important to be happy with yourself, no matter how old you are.
I also hear people talk about healthy fats. What is fats? They said it can help. Like the oil your body makes, but you eat it? I do not know, sounds strange. But, they say it can be good for dehydrated skin. Maybe I need to eat more of that. But what food has it? I need to find out, maybe it can help me with my skin problem. It is all so confusing, so many things to learn. But, I will try, need to try to fix this, you know?
You know, back in my day, we didn’t have all these fancy lotions and potions. We just used what we had. Lard, mostly. Kept your skin soft, I reckon. Maybe I should go back to that. Simpler times, simpler ways. I remember my mama used to say, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Maybe she was right. But now, they got all these different things, it is hard to know what is good. They all say different things. Make your head spin. So, you need to find what is good for you, I guess.
