Today, I wanted to figure out just how many calories are in a 1/4 cup of pumpkin seeds. I love snacking on them, but it’s easy to lose track of how much I’m eating, you know? So, I started by grabbing my bag of pumpkin seeds and a 1/4 cup measuring cup.
First, I filled the measuring cup with the seeds, making sure it was level at the top. Then, I poured them onto a small plate to get a better look. They looked like a decent amount, but were they a calorie bomb? Time to find out.
I checked the nutrition label on the bag, but it only gave me the calories for a 1/3 cup serving, which was around 246 calories. Not super helpful for my 1/4 cup portion. So, I decided to do a little digging online.
- I found some sources saying that a 1/4 cup of raw pumpkin seeds has about 190 calories. Others said it could be 180 or even 200 calories.
- One site mentioned that a 1/4 cup of roasted, unsalted pumpkin seeds has around 170 calories. There are different numbers because some are organic raw and others are roasted.
Okay, so there’s a bit of a range, but it seems like my 1/4 cup of pumpkin seeds is somewhere between 170 and 200 calories. Not too bad for a snack, especially since they’re packed with nutrients like protein and healthy fats. A donut chart showed me the breakdown: 75% of those calories come from fat, 18% from protein, and 7% from carbs, so that is a good sign.
To be extra sure, I weighed the seeds on my kitchen scale. They came out to about 34 grams, which lined up with what I read online. It’s always good to double-check, right?
In the end, I felt pretty good about my pumpkin seed snack. It’s tasty, satisfying, and not a calorie disaster. I’ll just have to remember to measure them out instead of eating straight from the bag!
So, there you have it – my little adventure in figuring out the calories in pumpkin seeds. Hope this helps anyone else who’s curious about their snack portions!
