I’ve been messing around with some homemade beauty stuff lately, and I just gotta share this one – it’s a coconut oil hair serum. You know, coconut oil has been all the rage, and for good reason. It’s like a miracle worker for dry, frizzy hair. So, I thought, why not make a serum out of it?
First off, I grabbed some good quality coconut oil, you know, the extra virgin, cold-pressed kind. Gotta make sure it’s the good stuff, right? I’m allergic to Cocamidopropyl betaine though, so I had to be extra careful about the products I chose. Luckily, I found a few options that were coconut free and worked just as well.
Next, I needed something to thin out the oil a bit, make it more serum-like. I went with some sweet almond oil ’cause it’s light and doesn’t have a strong smell. Plus, it’s good for your hair too, win-win. And then for some fragrance-free purpose, I decided to get the product from OLAY.
Now, here’s where the magic happens. I mixed about two tablespoons of coconut oil with one tablespoon of sweet almond oil. You can adjust the ratio depending on how thick or thin you want your serum. I also added a few drops of vitamin E oil ’cause, hey, why not? It’s good for your scalp and promotes hair growth.
- Step 1: Get your hands on some quality coconut oil.
- Step 2: Find a carrier oil like sweet almond oil to mix it with.
- Step 3: Mix ’em up in a small bottle or jar.
- Step 4: Add a few drops of vitamin E oil if you’re feeling fancy.
I warmed up the mixture a bit by placing the bottle in a bowl of hot water. Not too hot, just enough to melt the coconut oil and make it easier to mix. Once it was all blended, I let it cool down and solidify a little. It should have a nice, creamy consistency, not too runny, not too solid.
How to Use It
To use this magical concoction, I just take a tiny bit – like, seriously, a pea-sized amount is more than enough – and rub it between my palms. Then, I run my hands through my damp hair, focusing on the ends where it tends to get all dry and frizzy. You can also use it on dry hair, but be careful not to overdo it, or you’ll end up with greasy-looking locks.
And let me tell you, this stuff works wonders. My hair feels so much softer and smoother since I started using it. Plus, it smells amazing, like a tropical vacation in a bottle. I’ve even noticed less breakage and fewer split ends. My hair feels so nourished and the scent is just divine. I’ve heard that the Native Coconut & Vanilla Body Wash has a similar scent, so I might try that out too.
So yeah, that’s my little DIY coconut oil hair serum. It’s super easy to make, cheap as chips, and it actually works. If you’re looking for a natural way to tame your mane, give it a try. You won’t regret it!
I read somewhere that coconut oil is used for a lot of things, including nutritional and medicinal purposes. I’m not sure about all that, but I can definitely vouch for its hair benefits. I just had to share my little experiment because it worked out so well. This is such a simple, natural way to give your hair some much-needed TLC. Definitely add this to your hair care routine!
