Okay, so, periods, right? We all get them, and they can be a real pain, literally. I’ve tried everything to deal with the cramps – hot water bottles, those sticky heat patches, even just curling up in a ball and hoping for the best. But a while back, I thought, why not try a massage? I mean, people get massages for all sorts of aches and pains, so maybe it could help with period cramps too.
First off, I did a little digging online to see if it was even a thing, getting a massage during your period. Turns out, it totally is! And some people swear by it for helping with the cramps and bloating. So, I booked an appointment at a local spa. I was a bit nervous about the whole thing, but I figured, what’s the worst that could happen?
The First Time
When I got there, I debated whether or not to tell the massage therapist that I was on my period. I mean, it’s not exactly something you shout from the rooftops. I ended up mentioning it, just in case, you know? She was super chill about it and even offered me a heating pad to put on my stomach. It was actually pretty comforting.
She started with some gentle, circular motions on my lower belly. It felt a bit weird at first, but not in a bad way. Slowly, she increased the pressure, but it never got uncomfortable. She kept going in these clockwise circles, and I could almost feel my insides relaxing.
Experimenting a Bit
After a few sessions, I started experimenting with some stuff at home, too. One thing I tried was lying on my back and putting my hands under my tailbone to lift my pelvis a bit. Then, I would just breathe deeply. It sounds simple, but it really helped stretch out those cramped-up muscles. Another thing I would do is just a basic belly press, lying flat and using my hands to gently press on my stomach.
I won’t lie, it took a bit of getting used to, both at the spa and doing it myself. But honestly, it made a difference. It didn’t completely eliminate the cramps, but it definitely eased them. Plus, it was just super relaxing overall. There were a few times when my flow was heavier than usual, and I was worried it might be an issue, but it really wasn’t. I just made sure to use a fresh pad or tampon before the massage, and everything was fine.
My Routine Now
Now, I try to get a massage during my period every month. It’s become a part of my self-care routine. And I’ve gotten pretty good at the at-home stuff, too. Whenever those cramps start acting up, I just do a few of those simple techniques, and it usually helps me get through the day.
So yeah, if you’re struggling with period cramps, you might want to give massage a try. It’s not a miracle cure, but it can definitely make things a bit more bearable. Just remember to communicate with your massage therapist, and don’t be afraid to experiment with different techniques to find what works best for you. And hey, even if it doesn’t completely get rid of the cramps, at least you’ll get a nice, relaxing massage out of it!
