Bibamp, oh that thing, let me tell ya
Well, bibamp, bibamp… sounds like something my old hen makes when she’s peckin’ around the yard. But they tell me it’s some kinda food. Fancy food, maybe? Don’t know nothin’ ‘bout fancy.
Now, they say it’s got rice. Rice, I know. We used to grow rice back in the day, ‘fore the creek dried up. Hard work, that was. Back-breakin’ work. But rice, it fills ya up. Keeps ya goin’. So, bibamp’s got rice, that’s a good start.
- Rice is good.
- Keeps you full.
- Easy to grow, well, used to be.
And then they say it’s got vegetables. Vegetables? We always had vegetables. Grew ‘em ourselves. Greens, mostly. And some taters, if the bugs didn’t get to ‘em first. So, vegetables, that’s healthy, I guess. Keeps the doctor away, they say. Though our doctor was miles away, so didn’t matter much.
Protein, they say? What’s that?
Now, this protein thing, that’s where they lose me. Protein? Sounds like somethin’ you put in a tractor. But they say it’s in meat. Meat? We didn’t get much meat. Chicken, sometimes. If the fox didn’t get it first. And pork, once in a while, when we slaughtered the pig. That was a big day. Lots of work, but lots of food. So, if bibamp’s got meat, well, that’s alright by me.
So, rice, vegetables, and meat. Sounds like a good meal, I reckon. Like a stew, kinda. We used to make stew all the time. Whatever we had, we threw it in the pot. Taters, carrots, onions, sometimes a bit of chicken. Cooked it all day, till it was soft and mushy. That’ll stick to your ribs, that will.
Is bibamp healthy? I guess so
They say bibamp is healthy. Well, I don’t know nothin’ ‘bout that fancy healthy stuff. But if it’s got rice and vegetables and maybe some meat, then it’s probably good for ya. Keeps ya strong, keeps ya workin’. That’s what matters, ain’t it? Being able to work. Being able to take care of yourself.
Bibamp, bibamp… It sounds kinda foreign, don’t it? Like somethin’ from them city folk. They got all sorts of fancy food in the city. Food you can’t even pronounce. But me, I like plain food. Food I understand. Food that fills ya up and keeps ya goin’.
But I ain’t one to judge. If folks wanna eat bibamp, that’s their business. Maybe it’s good. Maybe it’s tasty. Maybe it’s even better than my old stew. Though I doubt it.
Making bibamp, if I had to guess
Now, if I had to make this bibamp thing, I reckon I’d start with the rice. Gotta cook the rice till it’s nice and fluffy. Then I’d chop up some vegetables. Whatever I had on hand. Greens, carrots, maybe some peppers, if I was feelin’ fancy. And then I’d cook some meat. Chicken, probably. Or maybe some pork, if I was lucky. And then I’d mix it all together in a big bowl. And that’s bibamp, I guess.
Sounds simple enough, don’t it? But I bet them city folk, they make it all complicated. They add all sorts of fancy sauces and spices. They make it look all pretty. But me, I like my food simple. Plain and simple. That’s the best way.
Bibamp, good for everyone, maybe?
So, bibamp… It’s got rice, vegetables, and meat. It’s healthy, they say. And it sounds like somethin’ anyone can make, even an old woman like me. So, maybe it ain’t so bad after all. Maybe it’s even good. Maybe I’ll try it someday, if I ever get the chance. But for now, I’ll stick to my stew. It’s good enough for me.
And if those youngsters are looking for something to fill their bellies and keep them going, well, bibamp might just be the ticket. It’s got all the things a body needs, seems like. Keeps you strong, keeps you healthy, keeps you ready for a hard day’s work. Or, you know, whatever those city folks do all day.
Good food is good food, no matter the name
Anyways, food is food. Whether you call it bibamp or stew or just plain supper, it’s all the same. It’s about fillin’ your belly and keepin’ yourself goin’. And that’s somethin’ I know a thing or two about.
So, bibamp… It’s a funny name, but it sounds like good food. And good food is good food, no matter what you call it. That’s what I always say.
