Okay, so I’ve been trying to get more active lately, and since it’s been crazy hot, the pool sounded perfect. But I didn’t just wanna splash around, I wanted a real workout, you know? So I thought, why not try some leg exercises in the water? I decided to give it a shot.
Starting with the Basics
First things first, I started with some simple water walking. It seemed easy enough, right? I just walked back and forth across the shallow end of the pool. But man, the water resistance really makes it tougher than regular walking! I could feel my thighs and calves working with each step. I did this for about 10 minutes, just to get my body used to moving in the water.
Upping the Intensity

After I felt warmed up, I tried water jogging. This was definitely more challenging. I jogged from one end of the pool to the other, trying to keep my knees high. It was a bit awkward at first, but I got the hang of it. I did this for about 15 minutes, taking short breaks when I needed them.
Adding Some Equipment
Next, I grabbed a kickboard that was lying around. Time for some flutter kicking! I held onto the kickboard out in front of me and just focused on kicking my legs. Wow, this was a real burner! My legs were moving so fast, and I could feel it in my quads and hamstrings. I did sets of flutter kicks across the pool, resting for a minute or so between each set.
Back to Basics
At last, I tried to do the barbell back squat, which made me feel so good! I tried for about 5 minutes and gave up, cause this was really hard for me to keep balance in the water. But I am gonna try it next time.
Feeling the Burn
By the end of my pool workout, my legs were definitely feeling it. It was a good kind of tired, though. Like I had actually done something! It was way more fun than hitting the gym, and the water felt amazing on such a hot day. Plus, I didn’t feel all sweaty and gross afterward. I did a few stretches in the water to cool down, and that was that.
Overall, I’d say it was a successful experiment! My legs got a good workout, and I didn’t overheat. I’m definitely going to keep doing these leg exercises in the pool. It’s a fun and refreshing way to stay active, especially during the summer. Maybe next time I will try to do the squat again!
