So most of the white salt we get in them shakers has this iodine mixed right in.

These salts, well, they say they got them trace minerals still in ’em, things like calcium, magnesium, maybe even potassium – stuff that got stripped outta that plain white table salt.
So, what’s the fuss about them other salts, ya ask? Well, those minerals might be helpin’ with things like yer bones or muscles, or keepin’ ya more balanced. The pink salt, like that Himalayan salt, they say it’s got trace amounts of iron, which makes it pink. Now, I don’t know about ya, but that sounds a bit fancy to me. But some folks, they swear by it, say it tastes better and might even be healthier, on account of it bein’ less processed and all.
And, ya know, salt’s not just for eatin’. They use white salt in all sorts of ways. Some folks use it to melt ice on the roads in winter, especially in places that don’t see much snow but get frosty. That salt for the roads? Oh, it’s the same ol’ sodium chloride, just maybe not cleaned up so pretty. This salt gets sprinkled all over roads to keep folks from slippin’ and slidin’ when it’s icy. Ain’t that somethin’?
One more thing about salt that’ll surprise ya – there’s this thing called monosodium glutamate or MSG. Now, it’s not the same as white salt, but some folks use it like it is. This MSG stuff’s been around for over a hundred years, and it brings out flavors in food. They say it’s real common in Chinese dishes, canned veggies, and soups. So while MSG ain’t quite salt, it’s like salt’s fancy cousin that gives food an extra kick. But, ya gotta watch out, ’cause some folks say it gives ’em headaches or other funny feelings, though others are just fine with it.
All in all, that white salt may look simple, but it sure is more than just a shaker on the table. It’s in our food, on our roads, and even in stuff like soups and veggies as MSG. If ya want a pinch of health, some say go for them fancier salts. But for most of us, the plain ol’ white salt does the job just fine.
