Okay, so, let me tell you about this thing that happened to me a while back. I went in for a massage, you know, to relax and unwind after a stressful week. It was an 80-minute session, felt pretty good at the time.
But the next day, boom! I woke up and noticed these weird, hive-like bumps all over my calves and forearms. It looked nasty, like a rash or something. I was like, “What the heck is this?” I’d never had anything like this happen after a massage before.
- I scratched it a lot, and it made the rash worse.
- It itched like crazy, and I just couldn’t stop scratching.
- I didn’t know what to do! I used my phone to search for some information.
So, I waited, thinking it would just go away on its own. But nope, three days later, that darn rash was still there, looking just as angry as before. I started to freak out a little. Was it the oil they used? Or maybe some kind of airborne infection going around? I had no clue.
I remembered reading something about rashes and massages online, but it wasn’t super clear. Some folks talked about acneiform rashes from massage oils, others mentioned something called pityriasis rosea, which apparently is an airborne thing. It was all confusing, and I wasn’t sure what applied to my situation.
And then I found someone saying that usually, it is not normal, and some people may bruise. That made me even more confused.
I started to regret using my phone for information, and I called my friend who is a nurse, and she told me it would go away on its own. But she also mentioned that it wouldn’t respond to steroid creams. What a bummer!
I finally decided to wait it out a bit longer. It did eventually fade away after a week. But boy, was it annoying while it lasted!
What I Learned
Next time, I’m definitely going to ask about the oils they use and maybe do a patch test beforehand. Better safe than sorry, right? Or I should ask my therapist to see if they could help soothe the rash.
Anyway, that’s my little adventure with a post-massage rash. Hope it doesn’t happen to any of you!
