Okay, so, I’ve been trying to find a good substitute for hairspray lately. You know how it is – sometimes you just want to switch things up or maybe you run out of your usual spray and need something quick. I decided to mess around with a few things at home to see if I could come up with a decent alternative.
Sugar Spray
First, I tried the whole sugar spray thing. I’d read about it online somewhere, it sounded easy enough. I just mixed some sugar with water in a spray bottle. I boiled the water first, hoping it would help dissolve the sugar better.
- Mixing: Getting the right amount of sugar was a bit of a guessing game. Too little and it did nothing, too much and my hair felt like a sticky mess.
- Applying: I sprayed it on my hair, trying to get an even coat. It wasn’t as fine a mist as a regular hairspray, more like big droplets.
- Drying: It took forever for my hair to dry! And when it did, it was kinda stiff, not in a good way.
Honestly, the sugar spray wasn’t my favorite. It worked, kinda, but it was just too much hassle, and the results were just okay.
Aloe Vera
Next up, I thought I’d give aloe vera a shot. I have a bottle of that stuff for sunburns, figured why not try it on my hair. I got both aloe vera spray and gel on Amazon before. I transferred the spray to a bottle with a gentler spray nozzle, as the original bottle spray was too strong.
- Applying: I sprayed a little bit on my hair. The gel is too sticky, so I only used the spray.
- Feeling: It felt a bit weird at first, kinda slimy.
- Drying: It dried pretty quick, which was good.
The aloe vera was better than the sugar, I guess. It had a little hold, but it made my hair feel a bit weird, and it didn’t really keep my style in place for very long. I have read somewhere that aloe vera is good for hair, but I didn’t notice any differences after using it.
So far, I haven’t found the perfect hairspray substitute yet. The sugar spray was a bit of a mess, and the aloe vera was just okay. I might try looking into some other natural stuff, like the DIY mousse with shea butter someone recommended to me online, maybe that will work better. It’s all about experimenting, right? If you guys have any other ideas, let me know!
