Alright, so I’ve been wanting to mess around with making my own lip tint for a while now. You know, something simple, cheap, and that actually works. I finally got around to it, and let me tell you, it was way easier than I thought!
Gathering My Stuff
First things first, I needed to gather my ingredients. I didn’t want anything fancy, just stuff I could easily find. I remembered seeing something online about using fruits, especially ones with Vitamin C, so I grabbed a bunch of fresh strawberries from my fridge. I also picked up some beetroots ’cause I heard they give a nice, deep red color. I figured these would be my main color sources.
Making the Base
Next, I needed some kind of base to hold the color. I wanted something moisturizing, so I went with some coconut oil I had in my pantry. A couple of tablespoons seemed like a good amount. I also grabbed some beeswax pellets, just a small handful. I thought this would help thicken the mixture up a bit and make it last longer on my lips. I put these ingredients into a small saucepan.
Cooking it Up
I put the saucepan on the stove over low heat. I wanted to melt everything slowly, you know, so it didn’t burn or anything. I kept stirring it with a spoon until the beeswax was completely melted and mixed in with the coconut oil. It looked kinda like a clear, oily liquid at this point.
Adding the Color
Now for the fun part – adding the color! I chopped up the strawberries and beetroots into small pieces. Then I tossed them into a blender and blended them until they were pretty much liquid. I strained the mixture through a cheesecloth to get rid of any seeds or pulp. I wanted a smooth consistency, not a chunky one.
- Strawberries: Gave a nice, light pink color.
- Beetroots: Gave a richer, deeper red color.
Mixing and Setting
I slowly added the strained fruit and veggie juice to the melted oil mixture, stirring constantly. I added a little bit at a time until I got the color I wanted. I was going for a natural, rosy kind of look, not too bright, not too dark. Once I was happy with the color, I took the saucepan off the heat.
Pouring and Cooling
I carefully poured the mixture into a few small, clean containers. I used some old lip balm containers I had washed out. I left the containers open to let the mixture cool and solidify. It took about an hour or so.
Trying it Out
Once the lip tint was solid, I couldn’t wait to try it out! I used my finger to apply a little bit to my lips. It felt smooth and moisturizing, and the color was just what I wanted. A nice, subtle tint that looked natural. I also dabbed a little on my cheeks, and it worked great as a blush too!
Final Thoughts
Honestly, I’m pretty stoked about how this turned out. It was super easy to make, and I love that I know exactly what’s in it. No weird chemicals or anything. Plus, it’s way cheaper than buying lip tint from the store. I’m definitely going to keep experimenting with different fruits and veggies to see what other colors I can create. This was a fun little project, and I’m really happy with my homemade lip tint!
