So, I have this problem that’s been driving me crazy. Every time I take a shower, my hair feels super sticky afterward. It’s like, I can’t even run my fingers through it without feeling like I’ve dipped my head in glue. I thought, maybe it’s just me, right?
So I started experimenting. The first thing I did was changed my shampoo and conditioner. I switched brands like five times, thinking maybe I just had the wrong products. Nope, still sticky. It’s got to be something else.
Then I thought, “Okay, maybe I’m washing my hair too much.” I was washing it every day, you know? So I cut back to every other day. Still sticky! It felt maybe a tiny bit better, but still not good. It was a little frustrating, to say the least.
Experimenting with Rinsing
- I tried rinsing my hair for longer. I stood under the showerhead like a statue for a solid five minutes, just letting the water run through my hair. Still sticky.
- Then, I even tried rinsing with colder water. That was not fun, let me tell you, especially in the winter. But guess what? STILL STICKY.
Product Buildup
I started Googling, because that’s what you do, right? And I read about product buildup. I use a lot of hair products – hairspray, some mousse sometimes, dry shampoo when I’m lazy… So I thought, “Aha! Maybe that’s it!”
I bought one of those clarifying shampoos. It’s supposed to, like, strip all the gunk out of your hair. I used it once, and… it helped a little, but still not completely gone. I was getting closer, though. I could feel it!
Hard Water
Then, one day I was talking to my friend about it, and she mentioned hard water. Apparently, hard water has a lot of minerals in it that can mess with your hair. I never even thought about that!
I did some more research, and I’m pretty sure my house has hard water. I started noticing white buildup on my showerhead, which is a sign. It all makes sense now.
So, I tried something different. I got a shower filter that’s supposed to filter out those minerals. I installed it myself, which was a whole other adventure, but I did it! And you know what? After the first shower with the filter, my hair felt SO MUCH BETTER. It wasn’t completely back to normal, but it was a huge improvement.
I’ve been using the shower filter for a few weeks now, and I think I’ve finally cracked the code! It’s not perfect, but my hair feels way less sticky. I’m still using the clarifying shampoo once a week, too, just to be safe. It’s been a journey, but I think I’ve finally figured out why my hair was so sticky after showering. It was the hard water all along! Who knew?
