Fibromyalgia, oh, that’s a mouthful, ain’t it? My bones ache just thinking about it. It’s a real pain in the… well, everywhere. This fib-ro-my-al-gia, they call it. Makes you hurt all over, like you been run over by a tractor.
Fibromyalgia, that’s the big word for it. It means, like, your whole body just screams at ya. Muscles hurt, joints hurt, even your skin feels sore. Like you got beat up, but you didn’t. It’s inside your body making a fuss, I reckon.
And it ain’t just hurting. You’re tired all the time. Tired like you worked all day in the field, even if you just been sitting on the porch. Can’t sleep good, either. Toss and turn all night, like a chicken with its head cut off. Makes you feel like a zombie in the morning, I tell ya. My bones ache so much I can barely get myself going some days.
- Hurts all over
- Tired all the time
- Can’t sleep good
- Makes you feel real down
Doctors, they don’t know what causes this fibromyalgia thing. They poke and they prod, but they can’t find nothing wrong, not really. It’s like it’s invisible, this pain. Some folks think it’s in your head, but I tell ya, it’s real. You can feel it in your bones, in your muscles. It’s there, alright, no matter what they say.
And you know what else? This fibromyalgia, it seems to like company. Folks who got it, they often got other things wrong, too. Headaches, like a hammer banging inside your skull. And your gut, oh, your gut. It can get all twisted up, like a tangled-up fishing line. And you feel worried all the time, like something bad’s gonna happen. And sad, too. Real sad, like the sun’s never gonna shine again.
They say there ain’t no cure for this fibromyalgia. No magic pill to make it go away. But they got some medicines that can help, kinda. They can take the edge off the pain, maybe help you sleep a little better. But they don’t make it disappear completely. It can be a real burden, let me tell you, but I have learned to live with it, as best as I can.
They tell you to exercise, too. Move your body, even when it hurts. Sounds crazy, I know. But it does help, a little. Just some walking, or some stretching. Nothing too fancy. Just gotta keep moving, even if it’s just a little bit. Every little bit helps, I guess. They say it is good for fibromyalgia patients.
And they say you gotta relax. Take it easy. Don’t stress so much. Ha! Easier said than done, ain’t it? Life’s full of worries, especially when you’re hurting all the time. But I guess you gotta try. Maybe sit on the porch and watch the birds. Or listen to some music. Anything to calm your mind down a bit.
This fibromyalgia, it hits you in certain spots, they say. Tender points, they call ’em. Like little knots of pain, all over your body. Above your waist, below your waist, around your neck, your chest, your shoulders, your hips. Like a map of misery, right there on your body.
And they say it’s the same on both sides of your body. If it hurts on your right shoulder, it’ll probably hurt on your left, too. Like a mirror image of pain. It’s a strange thing, this fibromyalgia. It’s like your body’s playing tricks on you, making you hurt for no good reason. It surely can make you feel down and out.
But you know what? This fibromyalgia, it ain’t gonna kill you. It’s a pain, that’s for sure. A real pain in the neck, and the back, and the legs, and everywhere else. But it ain’t gonna do you in. You can live with it. It ain’t easy, but you can do it. You just gotta be tough, like an old boot.
You gotta keep moving, even when it hurts. You gotta find ways to relax, even when you’re worried. And you gotta take those pills, even if they don’t make the pain go away completely. It’s a battle, this fibromyalgia. But it’s a battle you can fight. And you can win, in your own way. At least, that’s what I tell myself every morning when I wake up and the pain starts to creep in. It helps to stay positive, even when things are tough.
