Alright, let’s talk about this… this… hair cream stuff, yeah, the one with aloe vera. You know, that plant that looks like a spiky green tongue? My neighbor, bless her heart, she’s always goin’ on about it. Says it’s good for everything, from burns to, well, your hair I guess.
So, I got me some of this aloe vera hair cream. The jar says it’s supposed to make your hair grow, make it shiny, like them movie stars, you know? I ain’t no movie star, but a little shine wouldn’t hurt, would it? My hair’s been lookin’ kinda dull lately, like a dried-up corn husk.
Now, I ain’t no scientist, but I heard tell that this aloe stuff has vitamins, like the ones in them oranges and greens the doctor’s always tellin’ me to eat. Vitamin A, C, and E, they say. And some other fancy ones, B12 and somethin’ called folic acid. Sounds important, I reckon. They say these vitamins make your hair grow, keep it from fallin’ out. Lord knows, I don’t want my hair fallin’ out. I’m too old to be bald!
This cream, it feels kinda slimy when you put it on, like snail goo, but it smells alright, kinda fresh and green. I slap it on my hair after I wash it, rub it in real good, all the way down to the roots. The instructions say to leave it in for a while, so I do. Sometimes I even wrap my head in a towel, like them fancy ladies in the magazines.
- Makes hair shiny, they say.
- Makes hair grow, they also say.
- Keeps hair from fallin’ out, hopefully.
Now, I been usin’ this stuff for a few weeks now, and I gotta say, my hair does feel softer. And maybe, just maybe, it’s a little bit shinier. Can’t say for sure if it’s growin’ any faster, hair grows slow as molasses in January, you know? But it ain’t fallin’ out any more than usual, so I guess that’s somethin’.
They say you gotta use this stuff for a long time, three or four months, before you see real results. That’s a long time, but I figure, what have I got to lose? It ain’t hurtin’ nothin’, and if it makes my hair look even a little bit better, well, that’s good enough for me.
I even heard you can make your own hair mask with aloe vera. Just scoop out the gel from the plant and mix it with somethin’, I don’t know what, maybe some oil or somethin’. Sounds like a lot of work to me, though. I’d rather just buy the cream in the jar. I’m too old for all that fussin’.
Some folks say that there’s somethin’ in aloe vera, a special chemical or somethin’, called aloenin, that helps with hair growin’. I don’t know nothin’ about that, but if it works, it works. And they say you can even use the aloe juice, mixed with water, and spray it on your hair every day. That sounds easy enough, maybe I’ll try that too.
One thing though, they say you gotta be careful, some of them aloe vera gels, even the fancy ones, ain’t always what they seem. So, you gotta make sure you get the good stuff, I guess. I don’t know how you tell the good stuff from the bad stuff, but I’m hopin’ I got the good stuff.
Anyway, I’m gonna keep usin’ this aloe vera hair cream. Maybe it’ll work, maybe it won’t. But it makes my hair feel nice, and it smells good, and that’s enough for me, for now. If my hair starts growin’ like weeds, I’ll let you know. But don’t hold your breath, it might take a while.
And one more thing, don’t expect miracles. This ain’t no magic potion. It’s just hair cream, with some aloe vera in it. But if it helps a little, well, that’s better than nothin’, right?
