Alright, let’s talk about this beet and carrot smoothie thing. Folks are makin’ a big fuss about it, so I figured, why not? I ain’t no fancy cook, mind you, but I can throw some things together.
What’s all the hoopla about?
Well, from what I hear, this here drink is supposed to be good for your heart. That’s what them doctors are sayin’ anyway. They talk about somethin’ called “nitrates” and how they help your blood flow better. Sounds fancy, huh? I just figure if it keeps this old ticker thumpin’, it can’t be all bad.
They say drinkin’ this stuff every day is okay. Two cups, they say. That’s a whole lot of juice, but if it keeps me from seein’ the pearly gates too soon, I guess I can manage. It’s supposed to help your tummy too, and your skin, and your eyes. Heck, they even say it gives you more get-up-and-go.
- Good for your heart: Keeps that blood pumpin’ like it should.
- Good for your belly: Helps you digest your food better, I reckon.
- Good for your skin: Makes you look a little less like an old prune, maybe?
- Good for your eyes: So you can see what those grandkids are up to!
- Good for your energy: So you can chase those grandkids when they get into mischief!
So how do you make this thing?
Now, I ain’t followin’ no fancy recipe. I just chuck stuff in the blender and hope for the best. But I hear tell you need beets and carrots, obviously. Then you can add some fruits to make it taste better. Beets taste kinda like dirt, you know? So you need somethin’ sweet.
I heard some folks put in strawberries, or peaches, or even bananas. Others like it a bit sour, so they throw in some raspberries, or oranges, or even apples. Me? I like a little bit of everything. A handful of this, a handful of that. It all goes in the blender.
You gotta peel them beets and carrots first, though. Unless you like chewin’ on dirt and grit. Then you chop ’em up, not too big, not too small. Just enough so your blender don’t choke on ’em. Throw in the fruit, add a little water, and blend it all up good. You want it smooth, like a baby’s bottom.
Is it any good?
Well, it ain’t no ice cream sundae, that’s for sure. But it ain’t half bad neither. The sweetness from the fruit helps cut the bitterness of the beets. And the carrots give it a nice color, kinda like a sunset. It’s earthy, I guess you could say. Tastes like somethin’ that came outta the ground, which it did, so I guess that makes sense.
Why should you try it?
Look, I ain’t gonna tell you what to do. But if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ healthy to drink, this here beet and carrot smoothie ain’t a bad choice. It’s got all them good things the doctors talk about, and it don’t taste like medicine. Plus, it’s easy to make. Even an old woman like me can do it.
And they say it fits with all them fancy diets people are on these days. Vegan this, gluten-free that. This here drink is just plain old fruits and vegetables. Nothin’ fancy, nothin’ complicated.
One last thing, don’t go overboard now. Two cups a day is plenty, they say. Too much of a good thing can be bad for you, you know. Even water can kill you if you drink too much. So just be sensible about it. A little bit every day is all you need.
So there you have it. My two cents on this beet and carrot smoothie thing. It’s healthy, it’s easy to make, and it don’t taste half bad. Give it a try. You might just like it.
And remember, I ain’t no doctor or nothin’, so don’t go blamin’ me if it don’t work for you. But it can’t hurt to try, can it? Now go on and make yourself a smoothie. And don’t forget to wash your blender afterwards!
