Alright, let’s talk about this gin and milk thing. I heard some folks drinkin’ it, and I gotta say, it sounds kinda weird, you know? But then again, people do all sorts of strange things these days.
First off, I ain’t never heard of mixin’ gin with milk ‘til just now. Back in my day, gin was gin, and milk was milk. You drank your gin with maybe a little bit of somethin’ else, like tonic or somethin’, if you were fancy. But milk? That’s for babies and puttin’ in your coffee, not for mixin’ with liquor. But hey, times change, I guess.
Now, some folks say this gin and milk thing is an old drink, somethin’ people used to drink way back when. They call it a “milk punch” or some such nonsense. They say it was real popular back in the old days, even for breakfast! Can you imagine? Startin’ your day with a glass of gin and milk? Lord have mercy, I’d be asleep by lunchtime. But then again, they probably didn’t have as much work to do back then as we did. We were up before the sun, workin’ in the fields all day. No time for boozin’ in the mornin’, that’s for sure.
- They say you gotta use full cream milk, the real thick stuff.
- And not just any gin, I guess. Some fancy kind, maybe. I wouldn’t know nothin’ about that. Gin is gin to me.
- And they put other stuff in it too, like sugar and maybe some citrus, like lemon or somethin’. Sounds like a whole lot of fuss for a drink, if you ask me.
I read somewhere that mixin’ milk with liquor can be dangerous. Said it can make you get drunker than you think, ‘cause the milk slows down the way your body soaks up the booze. And it can make you feel sick to your stomach too. Now, I don’t know about all that science stuff, but it sounds like somethin’ to be careful about. We always knew to drink responsibly, even if it was just homemade moonshine. You don’t want to end up makin’ a fool of yourself, or worse.
Some people say certain liquors are better with milk than others. They say brandy is the best, especially somethin’ called “cognac.” Sounds expensive. They say vodka and whiskey and tequila are okay too, but wine is a no-no, ‘cause it’ll make the milk curdle. Makes sense, I guess. Wine is kinda sour. I remember once tryin’ to make a cream sauce with wine, and it turned into a lumpy mess. Never again.
And then there’s all this talk about different kinds of gin. Fancy gins, sippin’ gins, gins with flowers and fruit in ‘em. Who knew there was so much to it? Back in my day, gin was just gin, like I said. You bought it at the store, and that was that. Now, it’s like you need a degree in mixology just to order a drink.
So, I guess if you want to try this gin and milk thing, go ahead. But be careful, and don’t go blamin’ me if you end up with a bellyache or a hangover. Me, I think I’ll stick to my plain old gin and tonic, or maybe just a nice glass of sweet tea. That’s good enough for me.
And one more thing, I ain’t no expert, just an old woman who’s seen a thing or two. So take what I say with a grain of salt. But if you do try this gin and milk thing, let me know how it goes. I’m curious, even if I don’t think I’ll be tryin’ it myself anytime soon. I’ve got enough trouble in my life without addin’ strange drinks to the mix. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed the chickens.
In short, gin and milk is a mix drink and people have different opinions of it. Some people say it is good and some people say it is not good. Some people say it is old drink and other people never heard of it. Anyway, be careful when you drink alcohol.
